Home Automation & Energy Efficiency

The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University has concluded in their latest study that the top remodeling trends for the next decade would be home automation and energy efficiency. The study revealed that 40 percent of remodelers foresee energy-efficient products/construction as the No. 1 trend over the next 5 to 10 years. Automated systems/new technologies are the No. 2 trend, with 36 percent of remodelers seeing it as the top trend.

Consumers are also demanding energy efficiency and home automation in their remodeling projects, with 73% demanding energy efficiency and 69% looking for home automation. The current revenue generated from remodeling projects includes 7% from home automation which is sure to see a northward trend going by the study.

Home automation has been in the market for decades, but the awareness about it is new. The home automation industry is projected to grow to $14.1 billion in revenues by 2018, according to ABI Research. Home automation used to be expensive and complex but not anymore, it’s getting more and more ubiquitous and cheaper.
